Activity

Archaeological Excavation at Elephanta

In early 2026, students of the Bachelor’s in Indian History Culture, Archaeology and Heritage Studies programme had the unique opportunity to participate in an archaeological excavation at Elephanta conducted by Archaeological Survey of India, Mumbai Circle. Working alongside heritage and archaeology professionals, they gained valuable hands-on experience in excavation techniques, documentation, artefact handling, site observation, and field recording. The experience allowed students to move beyond classroom learning and engage directly with the material remains of the past. By connecting theoretical concepts with practical fieldwork, the excavation deepened their understanding of archaeological methods, heritage, and historical interpretation, making learning both immersive and academically enriching.
